On May 7, 1995 Township of Franklin Police Sergeant Ippolito “Lee” Gonzalez badge number 1107 succumbed to gunshot wounds received in the line of duty. On this day the Township of Franklin Police lost one of its finest. Sergeant Gonzalez made the ultimate sacrifice defending the residents of Franklin Township while in the performance of his duties. In order to honor the fallen officer a scholarship fund was established at Delsea High School. Each year two (2) graduating seniors (male and female) are awarded $1,500.00 scholarships to further their education in the field of law enforcement.
